Money Transfers – Member Benefits

By registering as a member of xkenya.com, you are entitled to benefit from the various e-Payment services available through our online transaction gateway, including amongst others Air-Time Purchases, Money Transfers, Utility Payments, Academic Fees, and Other Payments.

Money Transfers – Send money directly, quickly and safely to your dependants or beneficiaries through their cell phones using Safaricom’s M-PESA service. Amounts range from KShs. 100/- to 35,000/-. Listed below is the M-PESA Tariff Guide from Safaricom.

Safaricom M-PESA Charges

When sending money to another person via M-PESA the total charges applicable are the sum of Send Money [charged to you] + Withdraw Cash [charged to the recipient].  It also depends on whether the recipient is a registered M-PESA user or not.

For example, if you want to send KShs. 3,000/- to a person who is a registered M-PESA user, it will cost you KShs. 30/- and cost them KShs. 45/- to withdraw the cash from an M-PESA Agent near them. Therefore, if they need KShs. 3,000/- you should send KShs. 3,045/- so that they can pay the withdrawal fees and receive the full amount required.

On the other hand, if you want to send KShs. 3,000/- to a person who is not a registered M-PESA user, it will cost you KShs. 100/- and cost them nothing to withdraw the cash from an M-PESA Agent near them. Overall it costs you more to send money to a non- registered M-PESA user since cash withdrawal is free for them.

Safaricom M-PESA Withdrawals

The person to whom you have sent money via M-PESA will have to visit their nearest M-PESA Agent to withdraw the cash upon receipt of an SMS from M-PESA.  All they are required is to give the Agent their pone number and show their ID/passport. The Agent will then confirm the transaction with M-PESA before handing over the money.

Please note that non-Safaricom subscribers can be sent money via M-PESA. The service works for all mobile customers in Kenya who are able receive an SMS from Safaricom informing them that money has been sent to them.

 
Transaction Process
All you have to do as a registered member to send money through our e-Payment service to a person in Kenya via M-PESA is the following steps (after configuring your online members account to list your beneficiaries/dependants):

• select the beneficiary of the money transfer using their mobile number
• specify the amount of money you want to send to them via M-PESA
• repeat the above steps for as many beneficiaries as you desire
• confirm that you have enough funds to activate the transaction
• if not enough, deposit money in our bank account for activation

Upon activation, we shall complete the money transfer on your behalf using M-PESA to send the money to the specified beneficiaries in Kenya via their mobile numbers.

We shall then update the above online transaction with the receipt details – basically the pin number issued by the Safaricom M-PESA service for reference purposes.

Transaction Fees

We charge you a nominal fee of KShs. 72.50 for each money transfer you instruct us to make on your behalf. In addition to this, there is a funds transfer fee of KShs. 725/- charged for any deposits you make in our bank account to activate your transactions.

Needless to say, this nominal fee per money transfer is only cost-effective for values above KShs. 2,500/. However, the nominal fee is reduced by 50% for members who pay for an annual subscription (KShs. 17,500/- or approx. US$ 240).

Repeat Transactions

Our online transaction gateway makes it really easy for you to make routine and repeat money transfers to your various dependants/beneficiaries by using a template to bring up your last money transfer details for all your dependants/beneficiaries.

The next time you want to transfer money in Kenya, the template lists all your dependants/beneficiaries whom you have pre-configured for money transfers and displays details of the last transaction (date and amount) to help you make a decision.
